Best Easter eggs taste-tested, from supermarket to luxury options

For the chocoholics among us, Easter is one of the best times of year. Indeed, the moment Valentine's Day chocolates have been scoffed, our thoughts immediately turn to the best Easter eggs.

Each year, Easter eggs seem to outdo themselves. What started as a simple hollow chocolate shell has evolved into something far more extravagant: think truffle-filled centres, hand-painted finishes, unusual flavour pairings and sculptural designs that look (almost) too good to crack open. This year’s line-up even includes a £90 ostrich egg–sized creation from Hotel Chocolat, tipping the scales at more than a kilo of chocolate – and yes, I’ve tried it.

Of course, not all chocolate is created equal. With prices continuing to creep up, choosing an egg that delivers on flavour, rather than relying on flashy packaging alone, matters more than ever. Whether you’re after a luxurious centrepiece, a dependable classic or a supermarket option that won’t stretch the budget, good value is just as important as cocoa credentials.

To help you cut through the confectionery clutter, I’ve done the hard work for you by tasting, snapping and scrutinising this year’s standout Easter eggs. From indulgent offerings by independent artisan chocolatiers to household-name favourites (hello, Lindt bunny) and supermarket gems, I’ve tested them all.

Ready to crack into the best Easter eggs for 2026? Read on for my full, tried-and-tested review.

How I tested

I tasted my way through 37 eggs from the supermarket, independent chocolate-makers, luxury department stores and farmshops, enlisting the help of other equally chocolate-obsessed testers to find the 19 best Easter eggs for every taste and budget. I was looking for high quality chocolate with good flavour, decent thickness, plastic-free packaging, and, of course, value for money.
