Live: Iran responds to US-Israel attack, firing missiles at targets across Middle East
Donald Trump says the joint attack is aimed at regime change in Tehran as he called on Iranians to "rise up" against their rulers.
The US and Israel are attacking Iran, demanding its security forces lay down their weapons and calling on its citizens to topple the government when the strikes stop.
There have been waves of explosions in Iran's capital, Tehran, and other parts of the country.
The US and Israel say hundreds of Iranian targets have been hit. "Bombs will be dropping everywhere," US President Donald Trump said.
Iran has retaliated by launching missiles at Israel and US allies and partners in the region, including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar. Iraq and the UAE closed their airspace and sirens sounded in Jordan.
Scores of casualties have been reported, but not independently verified, at a girls' school in southern Iran.
The UN Security Council is preparing to hold an emergency meeting. Secretary-General Antoino Guterres called for an immediate end to hostilities.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed support for US efforts to stop Iran building a nuclear weapon.
International travel has been plunged into chaos as major airports in the region suspend services.
